Feeds the five thousand

Mark 6:30-44 | John 6:1-14 | Luke 9:10-17 | Matt 14:13-21

And After these things the apostles, when they were returned, gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what(a) they had done, and what they had taught. And When Jesus heard of it, he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. And he took them, and they(b) departed(c) thence by ship(1) aside(d) privately(2) into a desert place (1) (2) belonging to the city called Bethsaida over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and when the people(e) had heard thereof(f), a great multitude(g) ran(h) (3) afoot(i) thither out of all the cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him(3), because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh. And (4) Jesus, when(4) he came out(j), then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great(k) company(l) come unto him, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he received them, and he began to teach(m) unto them many things of the kingdom of God and he healed their sick(n) that had need of healing. And when the day(o) was now far spent(p), then the twelve(q)(5) came (5) unto him, and said(r) unto him, This is a desert place, and now(6) the time is (6) far passed(s): Send the multitude(t) away, that they may go into the (7) country round about, and into the villages(u), and(7) lodge, and buy(v) themselves bread(w): for we are here in a desert place they have nothing to eat. But Jesus(x) answered and said unto them, They need not depart; Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat? he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, One(y) of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith(z) unto him, There is a lad(aa) here(8), which hath(bb) (8) no more but five barley loaves, and two small fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people. but what are they among so many? For they were about five thousand men. He said, Bring them hither to me. And Jesus(cc) commanded(dd) (9) his disciples to(9) make all the multitude(ee) to sit down by companies fifties in a company upon the green grass. And they did so, and made them all sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. And So the men(ff) sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties in number about five thousand. And when(gg) Jesus(hh) had taken(ii) the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked(jj) up to heaven, and he blessed them, and brake the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed(kk) the loaves(ll) to his(mm) disciples, and the disciples to set before the multitude(nn) that were set down; and likewise of the two fishes divided he among them all as much as they would. And they did all eat, and When they were filled he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. Therefore they gathered them together, and they(oo) filled(pp) up twelve baskets(10) full(qq)(11) of the fragments of the five barley loaves, and of the fishes which(rr) remained over and above unto(ss) them (10) (11) that had eaten. And they that did(tt) eat(uu) of the loaves were about five thousand men, beside women and children. Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
